1. Financial Mechanism Development
o Coordinate and conduct economic and financial analyses required in project geographies in Guatemala.
o Contribute to the design and development of financial mechanisms (e.g., FCRP), small grants programs, and credit lines that promote investment in conservation and facilitate access to credit for small farmers involved in deforestation-free activities.
o Promote innovative and effective financing models, instruments, and tools for conservation and sustainable development.
o Conduct research and provide analysis on the economic and financial viability of biodiversity and environmental protection initiatives.
2. Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration
o Foster strong relationships with stakeholders, including local communities, NGOs, businesses, financial institutions, and government agencies.
o Coordinate strategic partnerships with governments, the private sector, and civil society to support conservation finance and implementation.
3. Financial and Resource Management
o Strengthen financial capacity within the Guatemala Operating Unit and identify new funding opportunities.
o Support the implementation of financial components of projects and ensure compliance with TNC and external policies, procedures, and financial standards.
o Manage procurement and subcontracts related to specialized consultants in environmental finance.
o Supervise consultants and ensure relevant training and professional development.
4. Project Management and Technical Support
o Support the coordination and technical implementation of activities under GEF-IUCN Components 2 and 3.
o Assist in day-to-day management of GEF-IUCN and PfP project activities, including preparation of progress reports, work plans, and financial plans.
o Provide technical input to PMU members and ensure alignment with BU requirements and Project Steering Committees.
5. General and Strategic Tasks
o Make independent decisions based on analysis and sound judgment.
o Ensure programmatic integration across initiatives (e.g., UNDP-BIOFIN, EU, BLF-FCRP, GCF).
o Support climate and sustainable finance elements of conservation projects.
o Participate in complex negotiations and manage sensitive, high-profile initiatives.
o Flexibility to travel domestically and internationally, including evenings and weekends.
6. High-Level Dialogue and Financial Mobilization
o Organize and support high-level dialogues to mobilize funding from bilateral, multilateral, private, and philanthropic sources.
o Contribute to the development of compensation schemes for biodiversity protection contributions.
